[ootd] winter wonderland backtrack

3 weeks into school already and I've had 4 snow days! It's a hassle to get to class in the weather, but it's really beautiful to look at.

Just last week I celebrated Chinese New Year with a group of friends and had so so so much fun. Had to wear red to be festive (unlike most people that night ;^;)

Winter break was stressful, relaxing and fulfilling all at the same time. One of my biggest achievements of the break and of this year was getting into my very first gallery show.

Here's to 2014 and all that it may bring (late I know).

[ootd] fall is here.

It's fall in Brooklyn, getting cold, and I'm over 2 months in to the school year. Things are mighty hectic and I'm losing a lot of sleep, but I'm hanging in there. Here's my past 2 months in photos and [ootd]s.

Went to 2 concerts with the boyf, Local Natives  and The 1975. Each amazing in their own way, and the perfect way to forget about my stressful school life.

One of my classes this year is drawing on location which means I get to get off campus to draw, for class! This was a lovely sunny day in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Commence the [ootd]s, in which (in no order):

I celebrate my 21st
I go clubbing for the first time (and enjoyed it against my better judgement.)
I get my nose pierced

[ootd]: summer sunshine backtrack

Hello there interwebs, I am still alive, yes. I had a wonderful summer, traveling from place to place and soaking in (sometimes too much) sunshine.

I've been back at school for almost a month now, and I am suffocating under the work that I love doing. Seriously though, I thought last year was stressful......

I often reminisce of my summer and it brings a sense of ease to my very stressful days.

Here are some ootd snippets, including cafe/library work-dates with besties, going to Pink Dot 2013 (FINALLY), and attending my brother's high school graduation :'>

ootd: may backtrack

It's been too long!! I've been catching up on sleep, art, friends and good Asian food at good Asian prices. Here is an outfit I wore towards the end of school, featuring a cute skirt I made for a photography class, using photo-collage to create a graphic pattern and finally getting that printed on cloth. Bianca taught me how to sew and patiently guided me through the process, I'm so grateful.

Unfortunately I left this in Brooklyn, so I can only admire it from here, from some 9,500 miles away....

[ootd:] potlucks & polka dots

Spring has finally arrived! I'm so sick of dressing for cold weather, so I had fun getting dressed today.

We had a potluck in class today and I made quiche for the first time!

Today is one of those days where I feel like I'm really free, but I actually have a lot of work. Going to get on that now....

hny.

As a sophomore Illustration major, I’m beginning to think very seriously about my future as an artist. Some say it’s too early, some say it’s too late. But for me the timing is just right.
I’m very far from where I want to be as an artist, but in recent months I can feel myself getting just a bit closer to finding the right path. I feel like I don’t have enough to show for all the ideas that are constantly swimming around in my head and I’m trying to work on that. I drown in my schoolwork but that shouldn’t be an excuse to not follow my own path on the side. This is going to be a helluva journey and I’m ready

With this lion, a very last-minute to the Art Parasite Project for December, I mark the end of 2012. I’ve got a long way to go, and I won’t stop working, I won’t stop fighting until I am where I’m meant to be and I am who I’m meant to be whether it has to do with art or not.
That’s my new year’s resolution

It’s been a great year, and it’s only going to get better

ootd: espressos & pushpins

I'm a Communications Design major, with a concentration in Illustration.

In English, that means I'm an illustration major, but my school has a major that allows you to major in this but at the same time receive training in Advertisting/Art Design and Graphic Design for a very all-rounded education in the field. Hence Communications Design.

Anyways, yesterday was Survey for us sophomores. What that means is putting up minimum three pieces from all of your art classes (yes we do have liberal arts, non-art courses here too). It's a big, big deal for us, and is our equivalent of a final. Presentation is super important, along with overall quality of your pieces. So for the large majority of us the last few weeks/days has been a flurry of touching up existing pieces, finishing new ones, mounting them and planning out the layout for exhibition!

The night before I had an espresso at about 6pm, and somehow it kept me awake till 3am... even though I was in bed at 10.30 because set-up for Survey begins at 6am. It was...horrible.

When I arrived at my space, to my horror there was a light switch in the middle of it. So I had to either cut out a hole for the light switch in the paper I was putting up as a background, or cover it. I chose to cover it with my name tag and miraculously no one noticed!! I was pretty pissed initially since it meant I'd have to change my planned layout, but hey, I think it looked better than it would have.

Thank you, light switch. -__-

I wore an old sweater I found in my parents' closet right before I moved here for freshman year! First time wearing it and I loved it! Also found a pair of skinnys on our floor's swap & drop box, which normally sells for around $100 O__O

Survey all in all went super well, I received a lot of love, and I'm grateful. This is just confirmation that I really am where I'm meant to be. I'm even more motivated for the future now, can't wait till winter break, I'm going to be fighting sloth and working hard on personal projects! I'll be restarting my art blog soon, so look out!

Today is Senior survey, I went last year and it was amazing. I was extremely intimidated as well as motivated. I can't wait to go again!!

Here's my space in sophomore survey:

t'is the season

A little break from ootds today~

This school year has been truly wonderful so far in terms of classes. It's my sophomore year, and that means I've finally started illustration courses! And I'm more than certain now that this is what I want to do in the future.

It won't be easy for sure, but it'll be rewarding, in more ways than one.

I've made many pieces already that I'm proud of, and I'd like to share. I'm considering reviving my art blog, but until then I'll start with some work from my photography class since photos are all I have on this blog anyways :)

I have a lot to get to, school work, personal work, vlogging, blogging, sorting, etc. etc. etc.

Thanksgiving doesn't look like it'll be all R&R for me..

This is an assignment in which we had to take the style of a magazine of our choice and shoot our own spread for it. I chose Shinbiyo, a special interest Japanese hair-styling magazine and shot with the theme of the four seasons. I have so much more to learn in terms of photography and manipulation, but hey it was fun.
